Practical Font Design has been a surprisingly successful book--considering the small size of font design community. It this original book, David takes the reader through the process of actually producing a font in FontLab (currently using FontLab 5). The approach is deeply personal, but it is focused on sharing techniques learned through almost two decades of font design. Most font design books are all about character shapes and historical styles. This one is about actual font construction, going through the development of a font from concept to release.
In this second part, David continues the practical approach to font design shared in the original book by producing 13 fonts: nine styles of an oldstyle serif and four styles of a companion sans. This new set of font families is designed for book design, In fact, they are used as the fonts to format this book in its printed form. This is no academic work, but a chance to share a practical step-by-step process of font family production. You may not agree with the choices David makes, but you will be led deeply inside the process where you will find it simple to make your own choices.
