“This story has gripped me. It is a story that could well bring hope to many prisoners and others who feel that the justice system has not served them well. But most of all it is a marvellous Christian testimony.”

In this true story the author poses the question, ‘Where was God in all this to let an innocent person suffer?’ But God, who sent His Son Jesus Christ to suffer death to save mankind, was there to the astonishment of Arthur, who had settled himself to the thought that death was imminent. Soon he would know, when he was in heaven, what he had done wrong, but he could not perceive it. The story continues after the astounding first night in Durham jail as Arthur, loaded with sorrow at the disgrace that had been brought upon himself and the Christian testimony, banged up with two other inmates, climbed onto the top bunk of the cell and noticed snow coming through the window. He was about to let some quiet tears be released, hopefully unnoticed by the other inmates. But suddenly, he felt an astounding ‘presence’, which was to him none other than the presence and peace of Jesus Christ. In all his experiences of encountering the exuberant worship in Pentecostal meetings or the awe and majestic liturgy of Church of England or Roman Catholic gatherings, he had never experienced such in his life. It was overwhelming. He went to sleep but this presence was still there when he awoke in the morning. As the days progressed in Durham, Arthur continued stumbling between shock and the kindness of inmates and officers. He could not understand why he felt this deep peace and presence of Jesus, but he felt witless within, unable to believe the prophecy of his Pentecostal mother who wrote after the Appeal Court hearing was eventually arranged, “God has revealed to me in prophecy, that you will soon be in my arms.”
