England’s most expensive player is expected to be in the 18-strong match-day squad at Anfield on Sunday afternoon against a Manchester United going into a Premier League game without Nemanja Vidic for the first time this season. How the Kop would love to watch him bully the United defence and damage their great rivals’ title challenge.
Carroll has been getting fit and finding his fighting weight after two months out with a thigh injury. Kenny Dalglish has included him for the first time in his squad and could partner the 22 year-old with Liverpool’s other January signing, Luiz Suarez, up front, hoping to take advantage of United’s disruptions in defence.
With Vidic suspended after being sent off against Chelsea and Rio Ferdinand injured, Sir Alex Ferguson has to decide who will play alongside Chris Smalling at centre-back. Jonny Evans is close to fitness after an ankle injury but Wes Brown is the favourite.
Brown has only started two league games this season. He scored against Crawley in the FA Cup but his last league start was in the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa in November, a game in which Villa repeatedly cut United apart.
Dalglish will want to get Carroll taking on that defensive pairing, even if it is sending him on from the bench. Brown is not particularly strong in the air while Smalling lacks experience.
That defensive line could look even more inexperienced if Patrice Evra is not fit after hurting his left knee against Chelsea. He said in the aftermath of the defeat he was optimistic of making Sunday’s match but with the FA Cup quarter-final against Arsenal on Saturday and the Champions League second leg against Marseille the following Tuesday, Ferguson will not want to take unnecessary risks with such an influential player.

The Story
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It has been a strange winter with lots of clear skies but strangely, lots of rain too. The storms are coming in fast, dumping a ton of rain and then quickly clearing out before sunrise or sunset. So unfortunately, the light has been rather boring most of the time this winter rainy season in California. I try to 'stock up' on good images that will last me through the dry summer months when the clouds evaporate, but pickings have been slim. March is the end of the rainy season so there is still hope that over the next few weeks, we will have some dramatic skies. There can occasionally be good clouds after that but the odds decrease until November.
Fortunately on this morning, the clouds stuck around for a dramatic sunrise and then were gone about an hour after I saw this view. I live across the bay about 20 miles (30km) away on the left side of this picture behind Angel Island. So I only go here when there is a decent chance of good light.
I chose a short exposure time here because there were these cloloful ripples in the water and no wind to mess them up. This place has great long-exposure potential as you may have see in other views from here. And I used a wide angle to take in as much as I could. It was so dramatic and the weather was mild and humid. I almost forgot to take the shot!
The map shows the exact location.

Simply the best way to scout out locations that there is. You can see sun angles and pre-visualize light under lots of different conditions. Sometimes you can actually pre-compose your shots! This has saved me many thousands of vertical feet of climbing by avoiding spots with blocked views etc.

Post Office counter staff vote to strike at major branches
Post Office counter staff have voted by 9-1 to go on strike in a row over pay, jobs and office closures.
Any strike action will only hit the 373 Crown Post Offices owned directly by the Royal Mail Photo: PA
12:29PM GMT 04 Mar 2011
The Communication Workers Union (CWU) said turnout in the ballot of its 4,000 members at so-called Crown offices - larger branches on High Streets - was 66%, reflecting the strength of anger among staff.
The union has accused the company of not giving a pay rise for counter staff and of refusing to give guarantees about the future of the busy Crown offices.
Talks are due to be held in a bid to resolve the row, but the CWU warned that strikes could start by the end of the month if there is no progress.
CWU deputy general secretary Dave Ward said: "Post Office workers have sent a clear message to management in this ballot that they are not prepared to take double standards when it comes to pay.
"However, this ballot is about more than pay - it is the job security of our members and the future of the Crown office network which is also at stake.
"We want to see a strong network of Crown offices, but the Government and the company appear to be hiding the fact that they are planning a programme of further Post Office closures.
"Given the lack of support from the Government - only yesterday taking a key benefits contract away from the Post Office - we fear for the future of the network."
Andy Furey, the CWU's assistant secretary, said: "This massive yes vote demonstrates the strength of anger towards the Post Office for attacking their pay, terms, conditions and job security.
"Although we have a mandate to take strike action, we continue to be responsible and our doors are open for Post Office Ltd to talk to us about a fair offer for our members."
There were 2,365 votes in favour of strikes, with 172 against.
A Post Office spokesman said: "Post Office is disappointed that staff in our 373 directly managed (Crown) branches have voted in favour of strike action. Ninety seven per cent of Post Offices are run by subpostmasters and they will be unaffected by any industrial action.
"Postal deliveries across the UK are also unaffected by this ballot result."
